Join Bent Image Lab’s David Daniels as he teaches the finer art of his invention, Strata Cut animation, at the Anima Mundi International Animation Festival!  David’s master class will be held in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday, July 20th and Sao Paulo on Thursday, July 28th where he will discuss the mind bending world of Strata Cut. David will also participate in the festivals’ “Animated Chat” on Thursday, July 21st in Rio and again on Friday, July 29th in Sao Paulo where his innovative body of work from over the last 20 years will be showcased. Strata Cut - Animation as Shape and Sculpture: The Secrets of Geometry and Form when Revealed as Kinetic Motion over Time.

David Daniels, the inventor of the non-conventional animation technique Strata Cut, will methodically explain how chunks of multi-colored modeling clay are strategically shaped, kneaded, carved and twisted into overlapping and intertwined strands composed as blocks.  When these “time sculpture” blocks are sliced away with a knife, they reveal a precise pre-sculpted animated image sequence. The visual result is a kind of psychedelic-punk liquid neon impressionism.  David will also talk about his concept of this animation technique as an “architectural flow”.
